The Watkins Museum of History is housed in the Watkins Land Mortage and National Bank Building. The most significant exhibit is, perhaps, the building itself, a classic example of the Richardson Romanesque influence onKansas's architecture. It was Commissioned by Lawrence financier Jabez Bunting Watkins, constructed in 1888, and considered one of the most magnificent buildings west of the Mississippi River at the time. Activities, events, educational resources, programs, and changing exhibits explore the heritage of Douglas County, Kansas.
